Compress Video to 20 MB, Checked Before You Download

Discord lets accounts without Nitro upload files up to 20 MB (Discord File Attachments FAQ, checked October 2026). Drop your video in and the target is already set to 20 MB: ClipCut works out the quality that fits, checks the size of the finished file and re-encodes smaller if it is over. Nothing is uploaded.

Auto makes a sharp 720p MP4. Pick a size and ClipCut aims just under it, then checks the real file size. 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes.

Your file never leaves this device. Closing the editor wipes it.

How to use the Compress Video to 20 MB

  1. Drop in the video. Cut it shorter first if you only need part of it.
  2. Check that 20 MB is selected as the target size.
  3. Press Compress to 20 MB, check the size shown on the result and download.

How long a video fits

ClipCut keeps 1080p up to about 55 seconds when the original is 1080p or more, 720p up to about 2 minutes 10, and can fit up to about 16 minutes at low quality. Shorter videos stay sharper, so trim what you do not need first.

Checked, not guessed

A bitrate is only a target, so ClipCut measures the finished file. If it is over 20 MB it re-encodes smaller, up to twice. If it still cannot fit, it says so and shows the closest size instead of claiming success.

Frequently asked questions

Will the file be exactly 20 MB?

No, it aims just under 20 MB, so it is usually a little smaller. The real size is shown before you download.

What is the Discord upload limit without Nitro?

20 MB per file, according to Discord's help page as of October 2026. Discord says it is testing other limits, so some accounts may see a different number.

Why does the size look different on my computer?

ClipCut counts 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes, like phones, Macs and most upload limits. Windows counts 1,048,576, so a file just under 20 MB here shows a little smaller there.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is compressed in your browser on your own device and never leaves it.
