How to Make a Before and After Transformation Edit

Quick answer

Use two clips with matching framing, show the before for 1 to 2 seconds, hard cut to the after on the beat and add a short caption. Keep the whole video under 15 seconds.

Why it works

A transformation tells a complete story in seconds: where it started, where it ended. It works for fitness, cooking, cleaning, design, makeup, gaming progress and more.

Match the framing

The effect is strongest when both clips use the same angle, distance and lighting. If you filmed them at different times, use the crop frame in ClipCut to line up the subject in both clips.

The cut

Show the before for 1 to 2 seconds, then hard cut on a beat to the after and hold for a few seconds. Add a one line caption such as "30 days later" in the top middle of the frame.

Steps

1. Trim each clip in the Video Cutter to the exact moment you need.

2. Crop both to 9:16 with the subject in the same spot.

3. Add the caption with the Text option.

4. Join the two clips in your editor of choice and add a track.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a transformation video be?

Under 15 seconds works best.

Should I add music?

Yes. A track with a clear drop gives you a natural place for the hard cut.

What is the best caption style?

A short line of 3 to 6 words in the top middle of the frame.
